What is Urban Gentrification?
Urban gentrification is the rejuvenation of a older area that has fallen into decay. These areas are refurbished and are often old warehouses or industral areas that have been changed into fashionable residential, retail and office areas.

History
In 1846 before the area was called Erskineville, a man by the name of Stephen Macdonald owned the land. The town was called Macdonald and the current streets around that area are named after the relations of the Macdonald family. The names were Amy, Flora, Eve, Coulson and Rochord. Another street was named after Henry Knight. Henry Knight was one of the first brickmakers in the town and became the first mayor of the town. The street was called Knight street. The suburb was renamed in 1893 to Erskineville. It was named after the home of Wesleyan minister.
However in the early twentieth century the suburb became a working class city suburb where the street crime was not very good. This is where the Greeks and Macedonian migrants came to live after the World War 2.
The suburb went though gentrification in the 1970s where the town was changed into a new village type town with the village atmosphere. The suburb was also created with lots of parkes of park areas because of the urban forest.
